United States
Sites such as Seniorfriendfinder.com or True.com offer dating opportunities for seniors

Mis en ligne le 19/09/2006

Seniors looking for companionship can increase their dating pool through specialized websites. Older users are increasing in numbers on matchmaking forums. Their criteria for dating differ from those of the younger generation, focusing on kindness and caring.

Sites such as Seniorfriendfinder.com, Seniormatch.com., True.com, Babyboomerpeoplemeet.com or Findlovehere.com provide dating services for the elderly. This is in addition to Eharmony.com, Match.com and Yahoo Personals that cater to all age groups, including thousands of senior members.
The 14.5 million people in the US who are over 65 use singles groups and online dating sites more frequently than individuals in their twenties. They are looking for relationships following a divorce, a deceased spouse or simply to find companionship.
Using a screen name, posting a picture and providing other details about oneself online is gaining popularity among seniors in search of a significant other. Users cite honesty as the most important criterion for successful dating. Even a handicap will not necessarily hinder a relationship as long as care and kindness are exchanged.
Tom Blake, a dating columnist and author of "Finding Love After 50" and upcoming "Finding Love After 60" has seen the demand for his expertise rise. In October he will speak about the topic of senior dating at the National AARP Convention in Anaheim, CA. Beverly Mahone, author of "Whatever! A Baby Boomer's Journey Into Middle Age", also gives talks on the topic.
